DUMBO 500M DIVER
DUMBO, which our dive watch design concept is inspired by, is a deep-sea creature which dwells at 200-4800 meters beneath the ocean. The umbrella octopus species, aka DUMBO octopus, is the cutest octopus in the world.
The name “DUMBO” originates from their resemblance to a 1941 film DUMBO the elephant, having a prominent ear-like fin which extends from the mantle above each eye.
The DUMBO octopuses use these ear-like fins to propel themselves through the water and arms to steer through water currents. Their arms are connected by a web of skin, causing them to resemble umbrellas when their arms are spread apart.
Unlike most octopuses, the DUMBO octopus doesn’t have an ink sac because it rarely encounters predators in the deep sea. Even so, they still have the distinctive octopus capability and ability to “flush” or “camouflage” themselves to their environment when danger occurs.
A 46mm watch case
“This watch is too big for my wrist!”
Not to worry, guys.
The watch design concept is inspired by the Dumbo Octopus, which has the capability and ability to “flush” and “camouflage” into the environment.
“Flush”
Traditional watches have either protruding crown or “intentionally protruding” crown guard added to protect their fragile crown.
For Dumbo, its screwed-down crown “flushes” with the watch case. The crown is protected by the watch case even in the most extreme use.
This design made it both functional and aesthetically pleasing.
“Camouflage”
Dumbo uses a “camouflage” lug. Using this design concept, wearer will find Dumbo’s 46mm diameter case equivalent to a traditional 36.60mm watch case.
